Apartment, retail complex OK’d for Washington Township
WASHINGTON – Township planners have approved a Piscataway company’s plans for a six-building apartment and retail complex at Blackwood-Barnsboro and County House roads here.
The project, developed by Edgewood Properties, will include 180 apartments but also sets aside significant space for retail tenants.
A selling point for Washington Township is that 15 percent of the apartments are intended as “affordable housing” units, helping the township reduce its deficit of affordable housing.
The wooded property is about 12.69 acres spread over two lots, respectively 498 and 450 Blackwood-Barnsboro Road. One lot is 7.58 acres classed as farmland.
Edgewood’s project description also calls for a 13,013-square-foot pharmacy and a multi-tenant building with 12,250 square feet of retail space and almost 5,000 square feet of office space.
The Planning Board voted to approve a final site plan on August 3. The last proposed use for the property was for a self-storage business.
